Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about armored vehicles and our protection services.

Protection Levels

What protection levels do you offer? +
We offer five protection levels based on NIJ and CEN 1063 standards:
  • Level III - Protection against handguns (.357 Magnum, .44 Magnum, 9mm)
  • Level IV - Enhanced handgun protection plus light rifle threats
  • Level V - Rifle protection (5.56mm, 7.62x39mm AK-47)
  • Level VI - High-powered rifle protection (7.62x51mm NATO)
  • Level VII - Extreme protection including armor-piercing rounds and blast protection
What level of protection do I need? +
The right protection level depends on your specific threat environment. For most executive protection, Level III-IV provides excellent protection against common handgun threats. If you're in a high-risk region or face potential military-grade threats, Level V-VII may be recommended. Our security consultants will help assess your needs based on your location, travel patterns, and risk profile.
What is the difference between NIJ and CEN standards? +
NIJ (National Institute of Justice) is the US standard for ballistic protection, while CEN 1063 is the European standard. Both test materials against specific ammunition types under controlled conditions. CEN standards (B4, B6, B7) are often considered more stringent for vehicle armoring as they include multi-hit requirements. Our vehicles are tested to both standards to ensure comprehensive protection.

  • Level IV - 60-75 days
  • Level V - 75-90 days
  • Level VI-VII - 90-120 days

Technical Questions

How much weight does armoring add to my vehicle? +
Weight addition depends on the protection level:
  • Level III - 400-600 lbs (180-270 kg)
  • Level IV - 700-900 lbs (320-410 kg)
  • Level V - 1,000-1,400 lbs (450-640 kg)
  • Level VI-VII - 1,500-2,500+ lbs (680-1,135 kg)

We upgrade suspension, brakes, and drivetrain components to handle the additional weight while maintaining safe driving characteristics.

Will armoring affect my vehicle's performance? +
The additional weight will affect acceleration, fuel economy, and handling to some degree. However, we mitigate this by:
  • Upgrading suspension systems for the added weight
  • Enhancing brake systems for safe stopping
  • Reinforcing the drivetrain components
  • Using lightweight composite materials where possible

Most clients report minimal noticeable difference in daily driving. Fuel economy typically decreases 10-20%.

What is ballistic glass and how thick is it? +
Ballistic glass is a laminated composite of glass and polycarbonate layers designed to stop projectiles. Thickness varies by protection level:
  • Level III - 21-25mm (0.8-1 inch)
  • Level IV-V - 32-43mm (1.25-1.7 inches)
  • Level VI-VII - 50-70mm (2-2.75 inches)

Our glass maintains optical clarity while providing multi-hit protection. Power window functionality is preserved through specialized motors.

Can I still open windows and use sunroof? +
Yes, we preserve full window functionality. Windows are modified with upgraded motors to handle the heavier ballistic glass. A partial-drop feature (typically 4-6 inches) is standard for toll booths and security checkpoints. Full-drop windows are available on some configurations. Sunroofs can be armored or replaced with a solid armored roof panel depending on your preference.

Warranty & Service

What warranty do you provide? +
We provide a lifetime warranty on all ballistic components including armored steel, composite materials, and ballistic glass against material defects and workmanship issues. This warranty is transferable to subsequent owners. Mechanical upgrades (suspension, brakes) carry a 2-year warranty. The warranty does not cover normal wear, accidents, or improper maintenance.
Where can I service my armored vehicle? +
Routine maintenance (oil changes, tires, brakes) can be performed at any qualified service center. For armoring-specific issues or inspections, we recommend returning to our facility or an authorized service partner. We have service partnerships in major cities worldwide. Ballistic components should be inspected annually to ensure optimal protection.
Is tactical driving training included? +
Yes, every armored vehicle purchase includes complimentary tactical driving training for you and your driver. This 2-day course covers evasive driving techniques, threat response protocols, and understanding your vehicle's handling characteristics with the added armor weight. Additional training sessions can be scheduled at any time.

Vehicle Questions

Can you armor any vehicle? +
We can armor virtually any vehicle, though SUVs and larger sedans provide the best platforms due to their size and structural capacity. Our database includes over 21,000 vehicle configurations from 1981 to present. Some compact cars may be limited to lower protection levels due to space constraints. Contact us to discuss your specific vehicle requirements.
Should I provide my own vehicle or buy through you? +
Both options are available:
  • Your vehicle - Bring us any vehicle you own and we'll armor it
  • We source - We can acquire the exact vehicle you want, often at fleet pricing, and armor it before delivery

For armoring purposes, new vehicles are ideal as they haven't accumulated wear. If providing your own vehicle, low-mileage units in excellent condition work best.

Can you armor electric vehicles (EVs)? +
Yes, we armor electric vehicles including Tesla, Mercedes EQ, BMW iX, and others. EV armoring requires special consideration for battery protection and maintaining range efficiency. The battery pack adds protection to the floor, and we can add supplemental battery protection. Range typically decreases 15-25% depending on protection level due to added weight.
